The
SRS Community
Reuse Organization (SRSCRO) was established by Congress
in 1993 for the purpose of mitigating the impact of downsizing
of the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site through
support of regional adjustment planning and promotion of area
economic diversification. The overall mission is to create
an environment conducive to technology-based start-ups, business
expansion, and the attraction of new ventures to the SRSCRO
region. SRSCRO's region of responsibility covers the five
counties of Richmond and Columbia in Georgia, and Aiken, Allendale,
and Barnwell in South Carolina. SRSCRO serves as the community
interface organization for DOE-SR with respect to DOE supported
area economic development initiatives.
SRSCRO
has a community based Board of Directors which includes community
leaders from education, industry, business, banking, area
economic development organizations, and state and local governments.
The Board members are selected equally from the states of
Georgia and South Carolina.
SRSCRO
also serves as the DOE public/community interface for the
review of proposals for the use of excess DOE-SR equipment
to create local community jobs and/or enhance area economic
development opportunities. Proposals for use of excess DOE
equipment for area economic development are submitted through
SRSCRO for review and approval and further processing through
DOE.
