Microwave Off-Gas
Treatment System
This invention is a unique system for treatment of off gases, or hazardous
emissions, for safe discharge to the atmosphere.
The system is compact and portable and is designed to treat emissions from a
wide variety of thermal processes. The system can be configured for small-scale,
batch operations or large-volume, continuous operations.
Market Assessment
Many industrial processes generate off-gas streams that include a variety of
contaminants. Current methods for treating
these off-gas streams include filtration systems, chemical cleansing, scrubbers,
or chemical conversion to a solid material
that is subsequently disposed of as solid waste. These methods often require
specialized materials and handling, which add to the treatment and disposal
cost. The simplicity and cost effectiveness of this system should be attractive
to end users around the world.
Patent Status
U.S. Patent No. 6,534,754 has
been issued on this invention.
Stage of Development
A prototype has been successfully demonstrated at the Savannah River Site.
Contaminants including benzene; toluene;
ethyl benzene; styrene; napthalene; m/p xylene; 1,3,5 trimethylbenzene; and
1,2,4 trimethylbenzene were reduced two to three orders of magnitude and, in
many cases, to nondetectable levels.
