Surface Plasmon
Resonance Sensor
This all-optical chemical sensor is designed to be used in remote environments.
The sensor measures any gas phase analyte that can condense on the probe. Alternatively,
the sensor can measure the refractive index of a liquid. The sensor can perform
measurements in the presence of electrical interference.
Market Assessment
This sensor could be useful in biomedical research, semiconductor manufacturing,
food processing, gas and chemical manufacturing, and meteorology.
Patent Status
U.S. Patent 6,466,323 has
been issued on this invention.
Stage of Development
A prototype has been successfully tested at the Savannah River Site. Alternative
sensing materials are under evaluation
to measure various analytes.
