Creating Jobs

The Recovery Act is in Action at Savannah River Site (SRS). By creating 3,000 jobs, SRS in putting Americans to work.

A $1.6 billion allocation by Congress through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has funded the positions. Divided between special skills, trade, and general support positions, the hiring emphasis is on those who live in counties near SRS. People hired through ARRA will be engaged in important environmental clean-up projects at SRS.

Those hired are employees of one of the staffing firms contracted to employ individuals to work on the projects. They are not employees of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC, (SRNS), its management and operating contractor. The jobs are expected to terminate by September 2011.

To date, SRNS has reassigned to the project approximately 800 existing workers at SRS who would have otherwise lost their jobs due to changes in DOE funding. The remaining jobs are being filled by those who submit their applications through job fairs sponsored by the DOE and through online submission of an application through this web site. To apply online, please click on the ìEmploymentî button.

For those who are hired, the opportunities for acquiring new job skills through training and on-the-job experience can provide important marketable competencies for finding new jobs long after the ARRA projects are completed at SRS.
